What’s YOUR Motivation?

Sunday was Soccer Day—a day in which I do nothing but watch English Premier League soccer, and I occasionally switch over to see how the Chiefs are doing.

You see, I love soccer :-)

But Sunday, perhaps out of boredom (maybe even frustration with the soccer game AND the Chiefs), I spent 91 minutes watching a movie that I watched maybe twice when it first made it to the silver screen: Rocky IV.

I didn’t give it much thought back when it first came out, but WOW what a motivational story.

Training Myths and the Female Athlete

_MG_7977sAs a personal trainer, I have been approached many times by clients or other women in the gym asking me questions on the best ways to “tone up, lose cellulite, get a butt that ’sticks out’, get a sexy stomach…” the list goes on.

My answers are always the same. There is no magic pill or powder or even secret that trainers, professional athletes or fitness models are keeping from the general public. It all comes down to hard work, being conscious of your diet and, most importantly, being consistent.

If it were easy everyone would be in perfect shape all of the time. To quote Bill Cosby,

“In order to succeed, the desire for success
must be greater than the fear of failure.”

Frequently Asked Questions (Excuses) That Inevitably Lead To Weight-Loss Failure

maria-lankinaQuestion: How can I be thin like the models in the magazines?

Answer: Thin people are the exception, rather than the rule, despite what the magazines portray. Most images in magazines are “computer slimmed” – they really are not that skinny. The average American woman is a size 14, so your aim should be not to be “thin”, rather, it should be to become healthy, full of energy and within the healthy weight range for your age and height. There is no such thing as an “ideal weight” but there is a healthy weight range you can work toward by making healthy food and exercise choices.

It’s Sabotage!

“I can’t stand it, I know you planned it
I’m gonna set it straight, this Watergate
Oh my, it’s a mirage
Listen all y’all it’s sabotage!”

- Beastie Boys, “Sabotage”

Malicious Mike

Mike was the worst training partner I’d ever had. He’d show up late if he showed up at all. He always wanted to quit early. He flapped his gums incessantly. He’d make excuses and punk out on any tough exercise. But that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was his poisonous attitude.

Mike, you see, was toxic.
